Description
The SylWrap Universal Pipe Repair Kit is used to permanently repair live leaks and burst pipes, enabling the user to fix a leaking pipe even when water pressure cannot be turned off.
Repairs can be made in under 30 minutes to pipes of any size made from copper, PVC plastics, steel, stainless steel, malleable iron, GRP, ceramic, clay, concrete, lead, and rubber.
The Universal Pipe Repair Kit is used to fix leaking pipes in domestic plumbing and for large-scale pipe repair in industry. Because flow does not need to be isolated when using a Universal Kit, sites can avoid costly and disruptive shutdowns of systems.
All the products in the Universal Kit have WRAS approval and so can be used on pipes carrying drinking water. The Kit makes pressure resistant repairs up to 30 bar, is temperature resistant to 200ºC, and is effective on pipes carrying hot and cold water and chemicals.
SylWrap Universal Pipe Repair Kit details – How to fix a burst pipe and repair live leaks
The Universal Kit contains two sealing materials – Superfast Epoxy Putty and Wrap & Seal Pipe Burst Tape – and a SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage.
Where pressure cannot be turned off, Wrap & Seal is used to seal the leak. The self-amalgamating waterproof repair tape stretches by 300%, bonding to both the pipe surface and itself as it is wrapped. Once fused, it forms a solid rubber band containing pipe content.
Each Universal Pipe Repair Kit comes with one Wrap & Seal Tape. For high pressure industrial repairs, further Wrap & Seal may be required to build up pressure resistance.
If you are undertaking such an application, please go to the Repair Calculator tab and enter information about your repair to determine the number of tapes needed. Additional Wrap & Seal can be purchased separately.
Universal Kits covering pipes over 150mm diameter include a SylPad Pressure Resistance Multiplier. SylPad is used with Wrap & Seal to better concentrate the pressure of the tape directly over the leak on larger pipes, multiplying pressure resistance by up to three times.
Where pressure can be turned off, Superfast Epoxy Putty is used to seal the leak. The putty is kneaded by hand until turning a uniform colour.
It is then pushed into the hole or crack in the pipe, where it will harden to fill the damage. Repairs made with Superfast Epoxy Putty are pressure resistant to 30 bar.
The application is completed by overwrapping the initial sealant with SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage. Wetting the bandage activates the resin.
SylWrap HD is then wrapped and smoothed over the repair area. It will set in around five minutes to form an impact resistant, rock hard layer of protection around the pipe.
For users making regular pipe repairs like water companies or facilities management teams, Sylmasta also supply the SylWrap Contractor Case.
The Contractor Case contains enough products to make up to six live leak repairs. It is easily stored on the van or on-site, enabling leaks and bursts to be fixed as soon as they are identified.
