Description
CrackSeal Sealant is a moisture-curing pipe sealant which seals cracks and splits in cast iron waste, drain and soil pipes where water is not leaking through.
It can also be used to fill longitudinal splits in other materials prone to cracking, including steel, concrete and anodized aluminium.
CrackSeal is fast working and easy-to-use. It is supplied in a 310ml cartridge and extruded directly into the crack requiring repair using a standard sealant applicator gun.
Once extruded, CrackSeal will harden almost instantly to permanently seal the leak. It will form a skin in approximately 10 minutes depending on ambient temperature.
CrackSeal adheres to wet surfaces, is silicone free and low odour. Unlike some other sealants, it contains no diisocyanates. It sets black, enabling it to appear uniform with cast iron. The cured material can be painted over.
How to repair a cracked or split pipe using CrackSeal Pipe Sealant
Pipework and surfaces being sealed must be clean from oil and grease, preferably having undergone preparation with Degreaser. Although CrackSeal will bond to wet surfaces, the pipe should also be dried as much as possible.
To apply CrackSeal, you pierce the metal seal on the tip of the cartridge and screw on the supplied nozzle. The nozzle is cut to the desired size at a 45° angle.
The cartridge is inserted into the applicator gun (not supplied by Sylmasta) and the metal seal pushed out. Sufficient CrackSeal is then extruded into the crack, hole or gap requiring sealing until it is totally filled with sealant.
CrackSeal can be smoothed with a spatula or similar tool dipped in water containing a little detergent. It will set instantly, forming a skin after 10 minutes.
Any excess should be cleaned up immediately with white spirit. Hardened CrackSeal can only be removed mechanically or with a specialist sealant remover.
Unused CrackSeal Sealant will retain its properties inside the cartridge for 12 months if stored between 5 and 25°C.
Pipe repairs made with CrackSeal should be overwrapped with SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage. SylWrap Bandage comes with a water-activated resin which sets rock hard in minutes, providing a rock-hard, impact resistant layer protecting both the sealant and the pipe.
Crackseal and SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage can be purchased together as part of the SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit.
For users regularly required to seal leaking cast iron pipework, Sylmasta produce the SylWrap Drain & Waste Pipe Repair Kit.
The Kit contains CrackSeal, SylWrap Bandage, Superfast Steel Epoxy Putty Stick, Wrap & Seal Pipe Burst Tape and SplitFill Epoxy Adhesive. It enables multiple repairs to be made to cracked cast iron and plastic drain and waste pipes – even with water leaking through.
