Description
SylShield Pipe & Weld Protection Wrap is a water-activated fibreglass composite wrap with extreme thickness. It is designed to protect pipelines and welds which are subjected to intense installation processes or operate in highly abrasive environments.
It is three times as thick as a standard SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage. This enables layers of protection to be built up more quickly around pipes and structures with less wrapping required.
Pipelines undergoing trenchless installation such as horizontal directional drilling, auger boring, impact moling and microtunnelling are wrapped in SylShield. The rock-hard, impact resistant shell SylShield provides protects against the damage and scarring these processes can cause, helping to avoid the need for pipeline repairs after pull back.
In abrasive and harsh environments such as mines, quarries, and onshore and offshore pipelines, the thickness of SylShield provides more robust protection than other composite wraps. SylShield also protects against corrosion, chemical attack, and increases pressure resistance and hoop strength.
SylShield is effective on pipes and structures made from steel, copper, malleable iron, GRP, ceramic, clay, and most plastics.
How to protect a pipeline from scarring, damage and abrasion using SylShield Pipe & Weld Protection Wrap
To use SylShield, you activate the resin in the composite wrap using water. SylShield is then wrapped and smoothed around the pipe, using additional water where necessary.
It can be applied directly over the outer surface of pipes, joints and welds. It can also be wrapped over anti-corrosion coatings, brushable epoxies, shrink sleeves and protective tapes to enhance protection levels.
Compression film can be applied over SylShield whilst curing to improve lamination. Any compression film should be perforated after application to allow SylShield to degas as it cures.
SylShield will begin to harden in between two to five minutes depending upon temperature and size of the wrap. Repairs can be completed in under 30 minutes and a functional cure achieved in 45 minutes.
